My Approach to Therapy

Life can sometimes feel overwhelming, unexpectedly challenging, leaving you feel stuck and wanting things to be different. Many people experience anxiety, stress, uncertainty or emotional difficulties at different stages of life and sometimes you may simply feel that something isn’t working.

I am an Irish and British trained, BACP registered psychotherapist and counsellor  (MBACP).  I work in English using an integrative approach and based in Paris 75016, in-person as well as online in various different countries.  I have extensive experience in treating mental health conditions.  I offer a warm, empathetic and confidential space where we can work together to better understand your thoughts, emotions and experiences.

I work with a wide range of concerns including stress, anxiety, relationship difficulties, confidence, low self esteem to deeper emotional struggles and trauma. I am also experienced working with depression and generalised anxiety disorders.  Therapy is always client centred to your individual needs, pace and goals. Whether you are going through a life transition, adjusting to living in a new country, questioning identity, or simply feel ready for change, our sessions provide a supportive environment to explore what matters most to you.

My therapeutic style is relational and integrative. The integrative approach allows me to adapt to your individual needs.  I can draw from evidence based approaches including person-centred therapy, humanistic, psychodynamic perspectives and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT).

I work relationally, which means that through the therapeutic relationship you are supported to explore and understand how early experiences and past relationships may influence your present difficulties.

Sometimes talking alone is not enough. Alongside traditional talking therapy, I also use a more mindful, body-focused approach that helps you tune into physical sensations and emotional responses. This can support the processing of emotional pain and past traumatic experiences that may still be held in the body.

Through greater integration of mind and body, unresolved experiences can be understood, healed, and transformed.  Helping you gain insight, develop healthier coping strategies and move forward in a way that feels authentic and meaningful.

My Background

I am originally from Ireland and trained as a counsellor and psychotherapist there. I completed a Master of Arts in Counselling and Psychotherapy Practice at Bath Spa University in the U.K.  My research explored the experience of living and working abroad through a psychotherapeutic lens. I examined the emotional and psychological challenges individuals face when relocating to a new country, as well as the strategies and inner resources that support adaptation and well-being during this transition. I completed a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Counselling and Psychotherapy at Dublin Business school in 2008.

I live in France. I understand the difficulties of moving to a country with a different culture and language. I have also lived in Australia and America.  â€‹

While living in France I have worked as an early year's teacher at a school.  I have completed a Diploma in Early Years Educator.  â€‹

My own life experiences have included loss and many challenges.  I believe that in life, challenges may arise, but we can live with the experience and learn from it.  Everyone has a fundamental drive towards growth.  â€‹

I facilitate a monthly group for Message Paris members.  This peer support group supports mothers from those who are expecting to those who have small and more grown-up children.  Parenting can make us feel stressed, low in mood and anxious which in turn can make parenting difficult.  â€‹

Members of Message Paris can access this peer support group by checking on their web site for dates.  This group is facilitated by myself and my colleague Sophie Wallace-Hadrill.

I am a registered member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP) and practice from France. I provide therapy in person in Paris 75016 and online counselling sessions to clients in various countries.  I hold worldwide professional indemnity insurance. I follow the BACP's ethical framework for good practice in counselling and psychotherapy (www.bacp.co.uk).

I continue to study and to keep up to date with new approaches and techniques so that I can provide a supportive and informative service to my clients.
